We are excited to share the story and offerings behind UpRooted, located at 2816 W. IL. RT. 120 in McHenry.

Dan Smith and Liz DuPlain (Smith) purchased the historic 1938 building from the bank in June 2015. After completely gutting and remodeling the space to bring it up to code—including full handicap accessibility—we opened the bar in August 2016, followed by the restaurant in August 2018. Drawing on our individual 50-plus years of hospitality experience, we were thrilled to launch this new venture.

At UpRooted, we strive to be a true scratch kitchen, preparing every dish with care and high-quality ingredients. Our name reflects our focus on fresh, wholesome root vegetables and our commitment to delicious dining. We feature hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, chicken, and vegetarian options. Additionally, we proudly accommodate gluten-free diets as well as various other dietary needs and allergies.

To complement your meal, our hand-picked wine selection offers something for every palate, and our tableside salad cart brings a touch of timeless dining directly to your table. We also offer our Gathering Room for private small parties.
